![]() Though there are multiple radio versions, I will review the original. Insofar as I know, this song is meant to be poetic in nature, brimming with metaphors. ![]() As far as two years since its initial release, it still showed up as Billboard’s top Christian song. Congregations all over the world sang Hillsong UNITED’s Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) as part of worship to our most Heavenly Father and King. That song which dominated Christian radio station airwaves for months and (occasionally) still runs on some stations. We’re going to explore these issues as presented through the lyrics of the song.Īll posts in the series can be found on the Oceans page.Ĭongratulations to Meredith B. It encapsulates the ideas of facing big struggles, turning to Jesus, and the freedom of resting in His embrace.Įach Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout this month of May, Here at God-sized Dreams, we are partial to the song Oceans, by Hillsong United. 14:28-29īut Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matt. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name. No matter where you are in this dream journey – standing on the shore, walking on the waves, or sinking in the storm – you call upon His name, and look above the waves, and He is there. (<= Click to Tweet) But he immediately looked up, called out to Jesus, and immediately He was there. I began by writing about Peter stepping out of the boat in the middle of a storm, onto a swirling ocean, because Jesus called him. I just finished a bible study on Gideon emphasizing battles are won, or the oceans conquered, because of God’s strength through our weakness. Every childhood bible story reveals God loves acting boldly so that the person He used, and the people He impacted, had no doubt it was ALL HIM. Heck, I certainly didn’t get out this far on my own. Until I say, “this is YOU!” The biggest relief descends when I remember God isn’t counting on me to move far into deep waters based on my own navigation skills. I have been asked to write and speak and travel and then the waters start feeling too deep. Every day I wake up in utter amazement at how far beyond the shore the Lord is calling me. God has revealed dreams well beyond anything I could ask or imagine. There has been crazy wave-walking this year. But those times I don’t sink happen only when I call upon His name and keep my eyes above the waves and fixed on Him. I am confident that I will experience sinking every now and again (hopefully less frequently as my faith grows) until my life here is finished. The second he looked down he began to sink. Peter walked on the water, with waves crashing into his ankles, because he kept his eyes fixed on the One who made it all possible. Something no one in the boat, or on the shore, had seen before. ![]() How in the moment when he responds to Jesus, and keeps his eyes fixed on Him in the middle of the crashing waves, he can step out of the boat in faith. We know this: We are called out on the ocean. ![]()
